Who is Mrs. Rakes?
My Experience
After earning my bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish from Wake Forest University in 2010, I spent close to three years working as a biologist and animal keeper for several different facilities including Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, and the Virginia Safari Park. I enjoyed conservation education and leading zoo education programs so much, I decided to enroll in Hollins University's Master of Arts in Teaching program in 2013. While enrolled in Hollins' program, I worked for Rockbridge County Public Schools at Natural Bridge Elementary. I completed the practicum components of my master's program at James River High School and Parry McCluer Middle School in high school biology, ecology, and middle school life science. After finishing all licensure requirements in 2014, I began teaching at PMHS as a Spanish teacher. I am very excited to move back into science education for the 2015-2016 school year, and I look forward to sharing my experiences in the field of biology with each of my students! My Interests Science, medicine, reading, dancing, Zumba, all things Harry Potter, running, hiking, and animals of all kinds (especially cats big and small) My Family My husband and I live with our six fur-babies: one cat, Ben, and five chickens, Luna, Bellatrix, Hermione, Ginny, and Lavender. |
